Designer’s choice

Little drops of hope in this ocean infested with sharks which we called life.
Fashion, interior, graphics, photographers, industrial, painters, textile, 3d’s, architects and artist in general, maybe this is similar to your history too…

Designer’s choice
Starting your own Collection…

Being a designer who wants to start a collection from extremely low budget is not easy, especially when you live in Italy, where everyone believes is a designer… Especially when free-lancing is your daily bread, because you have non years of working experience in a fashion company, why? Maybe because you were dismiss after your hardly to find internship or maybe because you are a human being and you have to eat and the salary they offer you would make you starve to death… In my case I always wanted to be an entrepreneur but the way I was raced taught me to start from a company first, learning the best you can so you can go ahead from there; well I haven’t got the opportunity to do that, why? well, let’s say life drove me up to others paths, so should I give up? No way….

I have many designer friends, one of them had done three internships in three different companies in Italy, then what happened? None of this companies had offered her any position after her intern period. Obviously for big fashion companies is better to have intern slaves that they can change every 6 months, just the best way to cut expenses…
I have other friends that just gave up in looking for fashion jobs, they all have one thing in common: they struggle with the idea of making their own collection, and off course the most difficult thing, to sell it!

The thing is does it worth it? Well I think it does…and here are my reasons why to start NOW better that ever!

·        First thing of all, this is like building your background, your portfolio, your cover as a designer, I mean your best work because it would represent what you are capable to do.

·        This is a great opportunity to go wild with your creativity, I mean the only person you have to like is yourself so go ahead and just blast your imagination!

·        This is like your trial collection, for your friends and family to see what is wrong with what, how can I make this piece sporty or more ready to wear or an incredible haute couture piece, and take notes for everything so you can improve each piece in the future.

·        Later on this is going to be your history book, so be sure you write every detail about timing, how long it took you to make patterns, cutting, sewing, how much money and fabric you spent, that way you have it there if you need it because your next collection has to be made faster and better one than this one.

·        Make sure you do some photo shootings, photo editing, books and artworks, it is just another way to polish your collection for the public

·        At the end, after the hard work you will feel great with yourself, at least for me it did.
